Wall Coverings
From cave paintings to plasma TVs, people have covered their walls with various objects. Different cultures and
countries have particular styles and designs when it comes down to wall coverings. For example, the pygmy tribes of
the Congo used to splatter the walls of their huts with the blood of their enemies as a sign of good karma. You
probably would like to go with something a little less grotesque and a little more pleasing to the eye.
The history of furniture parallels
with the progress of culture. In its gradual evolution, furniture has been made with a variety of woods and a
large array of styles. The period determines the type of wood and the different styles.
Paintings – countless varieties,styles,
designs to match your contemporary, retro, elegant, etc. tastes. The paintings should have a central theme and
match the rest of the décor. Light and cheery paintings sport a more cheerful mood than dreary antique ones.
Wallpaper – very expensive and time consuming to put up but can be a worthwhile investment
as long as you do it for yourself and not to add value to the home. Trendy and classic wallpapering can complement
the rest of the décor but stay away from extremes, as wallpapering is very hard to remove.
Colors – people enjoy a change once in a while and a colorful wall that’s in good taste
brings out the rest of the decoration and design. Just remember to stick with earth tones or light colors unless
it’s for a kid’s room.
Mirrors – extravagant mirrors in the master bathroom can kick up the feel of your home up
a notch. A few mirrors strategically placed in the rest of the house can also be very trendy and eye- catching.
Remember that the frame is crucial – pick something to match your theme and style.
Curtains – curtains are a must unless you have some very trendy blinds. Just make sure
your curtains match throughout the house. Curtains can make a big dent in your wallet, especially if you choose
custom made designs and tailoring over preset styles available at Sears, Macy’s, and the likes.
Edges – edges around the doors and windows nicely complement your wall coloring,
coverings, and decorations. They are not a big hassle to put up and it’s a very wise investment. Just make sure
they are discrete and do not detract from the rest of your gorgeous house!
Portraits – pictures bring back memories and those are the priceless things we
remember at the end of the day. Professional portraits, vacation photos, and even "fun" goofy shots all bring a
personality to your house, which truly makes it your home!
