Louis XV Furniture Styles |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
France has exerted a leading influence on decorating trends; Louis period styles are among the most innovative of all style guides. The Louise XV period style decoration was characterized by noted usage of free curves and extensive usage of ornaments and other accessories.
Rooms were markedly smaller, personalized and built for functionality. Wood was delicate; most used varieties were tinted, lacquer panels and veneer. Color palette was chosen to be very delicate with hues of pink, cream, white and grey. Any room employing this style is accentuated by rococo ornaments; which is regence in nature.

A Louis style décor is recognizable by its distinctive attributes like:
- Notable but graceful, sinuous C-curves, which achieves a fine balance with highly uneven opposing curves
- Very typical design elements that are particular to Louis styles; low relief covered gessoes, gilded bronze ormolu mounts and endive leaf motifs.
- Authentic furnishings like mirrors crowned on top with oil paintings, 3-tiered folding screens and curved bombe chests.
- Presence of sedan chairs, veneers and lacquers
- Finishes usually include gildings and pale painted finishes with a dose of heavy varnishing.
- Accented use of exquisite porcelains in the likes of boudoirs.
- Fabrics include fine silk paired usually with finely woven tapestries.
- Dining rooms with wood paneled walls.
- Black and white floors of marble squares laid in checkerboard fashion.
- Chairs upholstered in cane with separate cushions added for comfort.
- Beautiful wall decorations, covered with tall mirrors, tapestries and murals. Occasional application of hand painted birds and flower figures, by pasting them on the walls randomly.
- Mantels are made of marble or stone, and ceilings embellished with three-dimensional stucco.
- Doors adorned with trims and moldings.
- Wooden floors made from oak with herringbone patterns or parquetry.
- Furniture used in this décor is unique; probably the artistic sense and application employed here is the ultimate stamp of approval by designers all over the world. Furniture for this décor include commodes, chests of drawers, beds, armoires, tables, chairs, upholstered side chairs with cabriole legs, chaise lounges, settees, wing seats, consoles and tall standing clocks.
Emulating the style and decorative elements of a Louis XV guide is often difficult and confusing; there is a thin line of difference separating different Louis period styles. How ever, decorating a home with this style is quite possible by adapting certain intrinsic principles.
