With most of the other styles of interior decoration, people tend to confuse elements of the other decorating styles with one another; however contemporary decorating is truly unique in that

In order to start thinking for contemporary style furnishing, there are certain points you need to give attention. Lines are the single most critical factor in a contemporary interior. Accented usage of bold colors like black, strong background details like tall windows and high ceilings, well defined architectural forms, unique geometric shapes and forms are hallmarks of a well furnished contemporary home. If you adore the looks and feeling of urban and contemporary, here are some tips on how to create a modern and chic looking interior.

Most of the contemporary interiors remind you of a well maintained art gallery or posh looking museum. Remember that each single element and form have their own designed space and are deliberately left to stand isolated. There are wide varieties of options such as abstract glass sculptures, primitive art and sculptures, black and white pictures/ prints in lacquer frames, area rugs with abstract or geometric design/patterns, glass and steel display shelves, large colorful abstract paintings with simple chrome or brass frames, or no frame at all. Architectural and purely functional elemental forms are usually fully integrated in any contemporary furnished interior.

The color choice is very bold and can be anything from a mix of neutrals to white or pitch black, or gaudily bright and warm. Black is used as a rule on floors and ground and is very contemporary. The choice of furniture is often a critical factor in furnishing your room. Furniture generally exhibit clean and smooth lines. Broadly speaking there are five major styles of furniture: Casual style consisting of overstuffed sofas, earthy colors, oak, pine, and ash and maple woods; Contemporary style with bold colors, sharp lines, metal and glass; Country style of soft cushions, floral prints, distressed and painted wood; Traditional style with antiques and antique styles, wingback chairs, damask and chintz, cherry and mahogany woods and Eclectic style of ethnic or artisan pieces. Always keep furniture details uncluttered. Skirts are either very flat or pleated with no additional trims. Legs are very exposed and in solid shapes. Fabrics are often natural and textural with black or bold colors. Very bold colors are always recommended. Another cutest aspect is the usage of animal prints for your furnishings. Leopard pillows or Zebra area rugs are very popular.
Lighting style and placement is extremely important is such interiors. Always look for unusual fixtures with special shapes and forms, clean lines and perhaps with accents of strong black or metallic colors. In case of deciding on the right kind of lighting, try to use recessed lighting in ceiling, nickel and glass pendants lights or chandelier for dining area, touches of neon lighting, fluorescent kitchen lighting, polished steel desk lamp with bendable arm and pivoting head. Recessed lighting or track fixtures are often used to bathe walls with light. Indirect or “cove lighting” are also often preferred. It is equally important to use the contemporary lighting equipment to bring enough light to focus on particular areas, as well as permeate the corners and edges.

Art and painting pieces are integral part of any contemporary rooms. Always highlight your art by placing them on pedestals or columns. Special art needs special lighting too; with flood lights which bathe the surface. Always be repetitive in shape, color and form. Frame posters and other visuals in classic black wood or bold metallic frames. While glass, metal and stone looks very complementary, always treat each item as a separate piece of sculpture. Never crowd them! Accessories, if any, should be large and maintain a zone of empty space around each one of them. Flooring is always smooth and complemented by area rugs with bright color and texture. Plants should add a whiff of fresh wind in any contemporary room and always choose bigger plants with interesting leaves. Up light them from side and underneath. Flowers are dramatic too and contemporary looking containers are usually always used.

Innovations are usually a part of contemporary style of home furnishing and it is an art too. A well balanced contemporary room can be a connoisseur’s delight and an artist’s feast!
